The Romans were polytheistic, meaning they worshiped many gods. These gods that were worshiped were taken from a variety of other religions and beliefs, and adapted to the Roman society. The two main influences to this religion came from Latin and Greek society. The Romans had hundreds of different gods that they would turn to in times of need to ask for help. The gods as a group was called the Pantheon.

When Constantine the Great was the ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire, he supposedly received a sign from God (of the Christian belief) before a battle. He won the battle, and turned Christianity into the religion of the empire.
